The New Mexico English
Teacher Exchange (NMETE) program is a professional development
project that strives to improve student preparedness for college-level
writing, specifically for New Mexico State University's English 111 course.
The program pairs secondary English educators with English educators
from the post-secondary level, and creates a unique opportunity for teachers
of English to observe one another's classrooms, plan and design co-constructed
assignments, and team teach. This collaborative effort provides further
opportunities for cross-institutional professional development, the improvement
of teaching practices, and an increase in student retention.
