Barry Pearce

Biography: Barry Pearce’s parents emigrated from Ireland in the ’60s. He grew up in Chicago and attended Northwestern University and New Mexico State University, where he received an M.A. in English. He has taught as an adjunct or graduate student at NMSU, the University of Illinois at Chicago, Loyola University, the University of Oregon, and the City Colleges of Chicago. He also worked as a reporter, editor and publisher for more than a decade before leaving journalism – for good this time, honest – a few years ago. He returned to writing fiction and to NMSU, where he completed his MFA in 2015. His fiction has appeared in The Cimarron ReviewThe Colorado Review and Other Voices

Teaching goals/philosophy: Whether teaching composition or fiction, his goal is to help students relax and enjoy writing, to build confidence and fluency.
