La Sociedad Para Las Artes at New Mexico State University invites you to an afternoon reading featuring 2021 Pen Emerging Writer winner and NMSU MFA-Fiction candidate Pardeep Toor, followed by renowned poet Rosa Alcalá. Rosa Alcalá is the author of three books of poetry: Undocumentaries (Shearsman Books, 2010), The Lust of Unsentimental Waters (Shearsman Books, 2011), and MyOTHER TONGUE (Futurepoem, 2017). Her poems appear in numerous anthologies and journals, including Best American Poetry 2019 & 2021, American Poets in the 21st Century: Poetics of Social Engagement, The Nation, and American Poetry Review. She is a Professor in the Bilingual MFA in Creative Writing Program at the University of Texas at El Paso, and she has given talks, readings, and workshops in both the U.S. and Latin America.
Pardeep Toor won the 2021 PEN America/Robert J. Dau Short Story Prize for Emerging Writers. His writing has appeared in the Best Debut Short Stories 2021: The PEN America Dau Prize, Electric Literature, Midwest Review, and is forthcoming in the Great River Review.
