The MAP program in English is an opportunity for undergraduates to start working towards the MA in English with an emphasis in Literature while completing the BA degree. Successful MAP applicants can earn up to 12 credits towards the MA that also count for the BA in English.
The following courses can currently be taken by admitted MAP students for simultaneous MA and BA credit:
Acceptance to the MAP does not guarantee acceptance into the Master’s degree program. Students must apply to the MA degree at least one semester before the completion of their undergraduate degrees. The MAP program is only open to those who have not completed a Bachelor’s Degree.
Who is eligible? Eligible applicants for the MAP in English must have completed (or have in progress) at least 60 total credits with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the term of application. Before entering the MAP program, they must have completed at least one 400-level literature class (ENGL prefix) and either ENGL 301, 302, 303, or 310.
How to get started? Declare your interest in applying with this form. Email your responses and a writing sample that shows your skills in literary analysis to Dr. Miller-Tomlinson at tomlin@nmsu.edu. The faculty consider statements of interest twice each year: by November 1 to start in spring and by April 1 to start in fall (priority deadlines).
