NMSU offers the Bachelor of Arts in Gender and Sexualities both on Main Campus (through a combination of in-person and online courses) and through NMSU-Global (all online). The major on either campus consists of 36 credits of approved coursework in Gender and Sexuality Studies, of which at least 21 credits must be upper division (300 or above).
Students must complete all University degree requirements, which include General Education requirements, Viewing a Wider World requirements, and elective credits to total at least 120 credits with 48 credits in courses numbered 300 or above. In addition, students in the G&SS major must complete the following:
1) Nine credits of core courses
a. GNDR 2110G, Introduction to Women, Gender, and Sexuality Studies OR GNDR 2120G, Representing Women Across Cultures (3 credits)
b. GNDR 455, Feminist Research Methodologies OR GNDR 465, Sex, Gender, and the Body (3 credits)
c. GNDR 471, Seminar in Feminist and Queer Theories (3 credits)
2) Nine credits chosen from the following 3-credit courses
a. GNDR 401, Women and Immigration
b. GNDR 402, Transnational Feminisms
c. GNDR 403, Gender and Horror
d. GNDR 450, Special Topics
e. GNDR 454, Women Crossing Borders
3) 18 credits of GNDR or cross-listed electives (6 credits must be upper-division); these may include the following:
a. GNDR 360, Masculinity Studies
b. GNDR 405, Alternative Genders and Sexualities
c. GNDR 407, Gender and Graphic Narrative
d. GNDR 411, Gender and Migration
