Biographical Statement
Dr. Gina Lawrence (she/her) is a College Track Associate Professor in the General Education Writing Program and the Gender & Sexuality Studies Program at New Mexico State University. She holds a PhD in Rhetoric & Composition and a graduate certificate in Gender Studies from The University of Texas at El Paso.
Gina took her first online course in community college in 2004, as a first-generation college student — making her one of the earliest students to study on the web. She is now a digital learning expert with extensive university-wide experience designing and supporting online education. Her teaching centers on technical and professional communication — courses built on the conviction that every student is already an expert in something, and that the right rhetorical tools can turn that expertise into writing that stands out in any professional context. She also teaches in the Gender & Sexuality Studies Program.
Her research and teaching interests span digital literacy, multilingual writing, and media studies, with current work focused on AI literacies, bias in digital spaces, equitable approaches to supporting multilingual writers in online learning environments, and the changing demands of workplace writing in an AI-integrated professional landscape.
